DMDs are spatial light modulators, which reflect incoming light from an illumination source to one of two directions, with the primary direction being into a projection or collection optic. Each application is derived primarily from the optical architecture of the system and the format of the data coming into the DLPC7540 controller. Typical applications using the DLP651NE DMD include Laser TVs, smart projectors, and enterprise projectors.

DMD power-up and power-down sequencing is strictly controlled by the DLPC7540 through the TPS65145 PMIC. Refer to Section 9 for power-up and power-down specifications. To ensure reliable operation, the DLP651NE DMD must always be used with DLPC7540 controller, a DLPA100 PMIC/motor driver, and a TPS65145 PMIC.
