The higher switching frequency allows for lower value inductors and smaller output capacitors, which results in smaller solution size and lower component cost. However, higher switching frequency brings more switching loss, making the solution less efficient and produce more heat. The switching frequency is also limited by the minimum on-time of the integrated power switch, the input voltage, the output voltage, and the frequency shift limitation as mentioned in Section 8.3.4. For this example, a switching frequency of 2.1 MHz is selected.
