8.2.2.6 Anti voltage surge (AVS)

When motor speed decelerates at a very high deceleration rate, mechanical energy from the motor returns to the power supply which could result in pumping up the supply voltage, VM. Figure 8-10 shows overshoot in power supply voltage when AVS is disabled. Motor decelerates from 100% duty cycle to 10% duty cycle at a deceleration rate of 70,000 Hz/sec. Figure 8-11 shows no overshoot in power supply voltage when AVS is enabled.
