8.3.9 OSC1 and OSC2 Pins

These pins are used for a crystal oscillator. The OSC1 pin can also be used as a single-ended clock input from the microprocessor or some other clock source. See Application Design Consideration section for further information on the functions of these pins. It is recommended to provide a 40 MHz crystal or CLKIN to support CAN FD data rates. When VIO = 1.8 V an external clock should be used instead of a crystal.
