PRODUCTION DATA
Legacy Type-A ports source 5 V on VBUS regardless of a load connection or not. In contrast, Type-C ports are "cold," 0 V, until a UFP connection has been detected via the CC lines. This fundamental change in VBUS operation enables a Type-C port to save power when no load is connected. The TPS2583x-Q1 devices monitor the CC lines for a UFP connection and enable the internal buck regulator to source VBUS after a UFP is detected. As a result idle port power consumption is reduced compared to Type-A port systems where the buck regulator operates continuously to supply VBUS, even when no load is connected.
