The TPS546D24S uses a fixed-frequency, proprietary current-mode control. The switching frequency can be selected from pre-set values through pin-strapping and PMBus programming. The output voltage is sensed through a true differential remote sense amplifier and internal resistor divider, then compared to an internal voltage reference by an error amplifier. An internal oscillator initiates the turn-on of the high-side power switch. The error amplifier output is buffered and shared through VSHARE among stacked devices. This shared voltage is compared to the sensed switch node current to drive a linear voltage ramp modulator with input voltage, output voltage, and switching frequency feedforward to regulate the average switch-node current. As a synchronous buck converter, the device normally works in continuous conduction mode (CCM) under all load conditions. The compensation components are integrated into the TPS546D24S devices, and programmable through the PMBus command (B1h) USER_DATA_01 (COMPENSATION_CONFIG) or with the external pin MSEL1 to select pre-set values based on switching frequency and output LC filters.
