9.3.2.3 Fast Role Swap Signaling

The TPS6593B cable plug block contains additional circuitry that may be used to support the Fast Role Swap (FRS) behavior defined in the USB Power Delivery Specification.

When the TPS65983B is operating as a Sink with FRS enabled, the TPS65983B monitors the CC pin voltage. If the CC voltage falls below VFRSDETECT, a fast role swap situation is detected and signaled to the digital core. When this signal is detected, the TPS65983B ceases operating as a Sink and begins operating as a Source.

When the TPS65983B is operating as a Source with FRS enabled, the TPS65983B digital core can signal to the connected port partner that a fast role swap is required by enabling the RFRSTX pull down on the connected CC pin. When this signal is sent, the TPS65983B ceases operating as the Source and begins operating as a Sink.
