3.4 Functional Safety Concept

To stay as general as possible, the safety concept assumes the MCU playing the role of a processing unit (or part of it) and connected to remote controller(s) by means of a communication bus as shown in Figure 3-2. The communication bus is directly or indirectly connected to sensor(s) and actuator(s).

IEC 61508:1 clause 8.2.12 defines a compliant item as any item (for example an element) on which a claim is being made with respect to the clauses of IEC 61508 series. A system including TMS320F2838xD/S microcontroller as indicated by Figure 3-2 can be used in a compliant item according to IEC61508.
