The purpose of this document is to describe the behavior of the VCOP Kernel-C migration tool and the supporting virtual machine. Specifically, it describes how each feature of VCOP is implemented on C7x by the migration tool. After reading this document, a user should be able to look at either the C code generated by the migration tool or the assembly output that results from compiling it and understand what it’s doing and why.
Compatibility Warnings: |
---|
The primary goal of the translation capability is functional correctness. That is, a kernel written for VCOP should execute unmodified on C7x with identical (bit-exact) results as on VCOP. However, there are cases where this is not possible or impractical. In these cases, the kernel or calling code may need to be modified to execute correctly. These cases are highlighted as Compatibility Warnings in this document, and summarized in Section A.2. |
Efficiency Warnings: |
---|
Most VCOP constructs map well to C7x with little or no loss of efficiency. However there are a few cases where efficient translation is not possible. These cases are highlighted as Efficiency Warnings and summarized in Section A.3. |
