PRODUCTION DATA.
Thermal protection disables the output when the junction temperature, TJ, reaches unsafe levels. When the junction temperature cools, the output is enabled again. The thermal protection circuit may cycle on and off depending on the power dissipation, thermal resistance, and ambient temperature. This cycling limits the dissipation of the regulator, protecting it from damage. For good long term reliability, the device should not be continuously operated at or near thermal shutdown.
