Automotive trends are rapidly evolving, and as a result, new domain- and zonal-based gateway architectures are being used to efficiently handle the ever-increasing amount of data coming into and moving throughout the vehicle, and getting sent to the cloud. A properly functioning domain (or zonal) gateway safely and securely facilitates data movement between ECUs within a functional domain/zone and the centralized gateway. The centralized gateway safely and securely moves data between numerous domains/zones of the vehicle.
This TIDEP-01022 automotive gateway reference design (GCARD) is an easy-to-use, 8-layer PCB detailed design for use as a centralized, domain or zonal controller and is based on our Jacinto™ 7 DRA821 processors. It serves as a starting point for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to easily and quickly create a fully functional DRA821 solution in the automotive space.
DRA821 processors are high-performance heterogeneous SoCs that integrate legacy automotive connectivity (LIN and CAN) and high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, USB, a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, as well as numerous safety and security features.
This design uses a single PMIC (TPS6594x) power architecture with on board OSPI, eMMC, and LPDDR4 memory, as well as debug functionality. The board has hardware connectors that showcase and support a diverse set of communication protocols including five Ethernet ports, 10 CAN-FD ports, four LIN ports, and a PCIE connector. Headers have also been included for easy access to serial protocols such as SPI, UART, GPIOS, and I²C.
The high levels of integration in DRA821 processors help lower system costs and make the device useful in a wide variety of gateway use cases.
More information on available device capabilities, peripherals, and functional safety and security features is available in the DRA821 data manual.
